Penthouse SUNNY

Hampstead, London House re-build, basement extension Minale + Mann Architecture + Interiors 3,300 sqft

The kitchen-living room is built on the contrast between dense, natural materials and soft, rounded textures. We wanted to preserve a sense of restraint and comfort, while adding a touch of resonance. Rich, complex tones, a layered lighting composition, and carefully placed accents create an intimate, curated atmosphere. The space is arranged like a stage — with directed focus, pauses, and highlights.

The Anschutz Health Sciences Building furthers the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU AMC)’s trajectory as one of the leading medical care, translational research, and educational facilities in the world. The new building serves as a programmatic and physical health sciences hub of interdisciplinary and inter-professional scholarship. Academic, research, clinical care, and auxiliary functions are integrated into one building within a dedicated campus research zone, eliminating campus silos in favor of collaboration, achieved through a central atrium that connects building users and functions. The new mixed-use facility represents a state-of-the-art home for CU AMC’s long-term strategic initiative; to become a national destination for the delivery of genomics-driven translational research, education, and personalized clinical care. The dynamic range of building programs and users is planned and stacked with public-facing programs and amenities on the first and second floor. Office, research, and educational spaces are distributed on upper floors of the building. Consistency in character and design is achieved through a “kit of parts” approach applied to space types. A data center and vivarium round out the building’s program to support the extensive and important research conducted within the facility. Both the interior and exterior of the building prioritize the integration of biophilia, maximizing connections to natural light and views while regulating a sustainable, efficient building microclimate. Building users first enter the building through a large forest of columns that lead to an expansive, multi-zoned atrium filled with daylight, integral living walls, and easily accessible outdoor spaces. The exterior is defined by a sleek façade deceivingly comprised of three variations of unitized curtain wall that vary in their omission of daylight into the interior, regulated by orientation and interior program adjacency.
